Hi! I am Qadirah Abdur-Rahman, a Financial Coach expert with four years of professional financial coaching in New York City. I found a passion for personal finance when I discovered myself in tight financial circumstances after college. It was frustrating to see that I completed all the “right steps in life” and remained economically poor. I graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor's Degree in Television and Radio Production in 2017 to work in the television industry as a producer. However, many production companies required long hours and prior internship experience that I did not have and could not give since I became a mom in 2016.

Eager to work, I became a per diem teacher for the New York City Department of Education. After working in many schools, I landed long-term assignments at alternative high schools in Brooklyn, New York. I found myself connected to the youth because I was close in age and I just finished the process they were all preparing to start (the real world & college). 

I realized that going to college wasn’t the solution or the way to wealth for Black Americans. College is a part of the process as you can increase your social capital and knowledge, but it isn’t the primary way to gain wealth. 

In 2019, I began blogging about basic money management and black wealth history, hoping to inspire black women like myself. Unable to keep up with website fees and writing, I shut my website down for about a year. In 2021, I remodeled Brilliant Girl Finance LLC into a financial education company that will teach black wealth history and personal finance management to black youth and adults. Primarily focusing on ways to inspire black community members to build wealth and re-create thriving black societies like Black Wall Street.

In conclusion, I finally understand that wealth building is a hurdle for all black people in America – regardless if you complete all of the “right steps.” Systemically, this nation was built with laws and codes to keep people like myself in the same economic bracket that we were born into.

However, with my ancestor's guidance, an ambitious mind, and a resilient soul, I genuinely seek to accomplish all my ambitions at the optimum level!
